With everything that has happened in the past few years, would anyone question (or be upset by) aliens showing up at this point? Nah, bring ‘em on. As much as I hate to leave this on a cliff hanger (no I don’t), this will be the last comic for the year. More on that later but it leaves room for at least a week’s worth of speculation… any guesses on what’s actually going on with the aliens? Also, bonus points if you get the “sack of wet mice” reference.
Reflecting on the year…
As I mentioned, this is my last newsletter of the year. By the way, how is 2022 over already? Outrageous. Anyway, I just wanted to take a sec to reflect. I started this newsletter / restarted the Change Log comic at the beginning of the year. I’m pretty proud to say I’ve sent a newsletter every week since and produced 50 strips - I took one week to focus on the announcement of The Atlantean, and then this last week of the year I’m taking off for some retooling, more on that in a minute. The evolution of what Change Log was at the beginning of the year to what it is now is pretty interesting. It has kind of taken on a life of its own and I’ve learned a lot and grew as a cartoonist because of it. I guess the lesson there is, even if you don’t quite have a vision or plan, just start. You’ll never get anywhere if you don’t take that first step and even if you don’t know the destination or where you end up is nowhere near where you thought you were going, the journey is very much worth it.
Looking forward…
Ok, so I mentioned some retooling. The trigger has been pulled. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I’m rebranding. I’m saying goodbye to the Line Height name in favor of one that is more aligned with what I’m trying to do, from a cartooning perspective, so the next time you hear from me it’ll be under the name Ancient Astronaut Cartoons (website will be up soon).
There are a lot of reasons that I made this change, but the main one is that I need to remind myself that the point of all of this is to bring fun into the world. The new name is a bit ridiculous, doesn’t take itself very seriously and makes me smile, so that’s what I was going for. Everything with regard to the newsletter will just change over, but links to the old ones will change. So while it’s a bit of a headache for me to make a bunch of changes everywhere (and there’s a high chance I’ll miss something) it shouldn’t mean anything different for you, unless you’re out there telling everyone you know to subscribe to your favorite newsletter (hint, this one… I’m talking about this newsletter if that wasn’t clear).
I really do appreciate all the support that I’ve gotten from all of you over the past year and I’m looking forward to making 2023 even better (I’ve got big plans)! Thanks again for following along and reading all of my nonsense. I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season… see ya next year!
