Let’s go back in time to about six months ago. I had just wrapped up the Harrisburg Comic Convention. I was riding a big high of energy from talking about my comic projects, giving out free sketches, selling some books. I was super excited and motivated to make progress and get into these stories. It was great!
Then, about a week later, I was laid off from my job.
Well, crap.
All of my motivation and excitement jumped out the window as I switched into survival mode. My focus was on preventing us from becoming a family of traveling hobos… as funny as that sitcom would be. So everything else went on the back burner while I figured that all out.
I thought that would take, I don’t know, couple months… tops. Unfortunately, the entire tech industry decided it was layoff season and a couple months turned into half a year. Man, it’s weird out there.
But just like all good things, all bad things also come to an end eventually and I recently accepted a job offer! So… what was I doing before all of this happened, again?
Oh, right… comics.
I did a lot of reflecting on where things stood before the giant blur of the past six months and got some clarity on what I want to do moving forward…
The Atlantean
The Atlantean is shifting into my primary focus (comics-wise). I’ve made some tweaks to the story and decided to make some changes to how this story is being told. Rather than one big graphic novel, I’m going to release it in chapters… still working on the exact plans for that but subscribers of this newsletter will get all the info first… as soon as I figure it out. The story, and my process, will benefit from a more episodic schedule, so I can make progress in smaller chunks and get it out to you faster. And yes, I rewrote some things (again!) to make it smoother. Added new characters that were going to show up later, dropped some others that weren’t necessary, etc.
I’m really excited for this story again, and the first episode/chapter/whatever you want to call it is in the works… I’m probably working on it right now as you read this (I still have a few more days before I start my new job).
Change Log
Working on Change Log comics has been kind of like therapy for me over the past few months. Making fun of my situation and all the other nonsense going on in the world (and, man, there is so much nonsense) has been really helpful so I’m still going to continue to make comic strips, just probably not on a weekly basis, while I shift the focus. But, I have plenty of comics for a second book, so that’s in the cards at this point. I just have to figure out how to work the production into my schedule, but more details on that coming soon.
So that’s the update for now. Near the Wind is still in the plans as well, but needs more writing to be fleshed out before I get into it so that will be coming a bit later.
Thanks for reading, and for all of the support over the past few months, it really does mean a lot to me.
Have a great week!
