I’m gonna put my conspiracy theorist hat on for a minute.
Does anyone else find it a bit scary that privacy is becoming less and less of a thing?
We carry around little surveillance devices that are constantly listening to us, taking our photos, and tracking everywhere we go.
We upload all of our personal information to some magical cloud in the sky through a series of tubes.
Ok that last line was a bit of a dig at idiot politicians, but it doesn’t bother anyone that all of our data is sitting on a server (probably multiple servers) somewhere that we have no control over?
Most of us bury our heads and try not to think about it but if tyrannical governments of the past had access to this kind of information about their citizens they would be absolutely giddy.
Not to mention the tech companies and giant corporations that can now manipulate us at will.
It’s enough to make me want to do the Ron Swanson thing…
But when you think about it, they’ve managed to move us to the point where you almost have to have a smart phone in our western society today.
I mean, how would you order food or get a taxi? You’d have to actually… talk to people… bleh.
I remember watching the movie Wall-E way back in 2008 and feeling sad for all the people riding around in their scooters, drinking their smoothies, and just looking at screens all day. Congratulations, everyone… we’re almost there!
Yikes, this got way more depressing than I intended.
I guess my point is, as magical as these new phones and technologies seem to get every year, it doesn’t hurt to turn them off every now and then and go look at a tree.
